“All grown and all known” premature Gray hair - how it affects

Typically after a certain age gray hair is the natural loss of melanin due to which the hair starts to turn gray. Many also go through premature graying of hair due to multiple reasons.

HERE'S HOW IT AFFECT YOU

  • Stress can affect the stem cells in the hair follicles that means less stem cells equals less pigmented hair strands resulting in gray hair.
  • Genetics plays an important role if graying of hair as well as health issues like thyroid, liver problem and autoimmune disease can lead to premature graying.
  • Environmental factors also play a major role like being exposed to UV rays for long can damage hair follicles and reduce melanin production.
  • Going through anxiety , depression, constantly worrying about deadlines or overthinking and especially being ridiculed for hair turning gray does affect a person mentally which leads to stress and weakening of  hair follicles that lead to gray hair.

Dr Santhanam explains “while premature greying cannot be fully reversed, addressing the underlying causes can slow down further graying.”

  • Lack of iron can also contribute to graying of hair.
